Yellow Foot Tortoise
The Yellow Foot Tortoise (or Geochelone, Chelonoidis, Denticulat) is a stunning species of tortoise that is thought to have descended from the hesterna. These tortoises are distinguishable by their bright yellow markings across their limbs, head, and tail. However, they are often times miss-identified as there are several other tortoises that may mimic these vibrant colors.
Much like any other tortoise or turtle, the females of this species grows much larger than the males; making it easier for you to distinguish between male and females from this species. However, another great way to tell the sex of your new turtle is by the under-belly of their shell. The males will have a concaved under-belly unlike the female’s which will protrude slightly.
Something a little special about these tortoises is the sound that they are known to make. They have often times been considered to have a baby-like coo with their raspy voices. A little ambiance for those who prefer a little personality in their pet!
These tortoises eat primarily grass, fallen fruit, carrion, bones, snails, worms, and mushrooms. However, should also be fed a specialized pellet food to help them get all of their nutrients. |
