Yellow Belly Turtle
The Yellow Belly Turtle (also known as Trachemys Scripta Scripta) is a turtle that ranges anywhere from five inches to thirteen inches in length; which makes them one of the larger pet turtles within the United States and around the world.
This species of turtle is omnivorous (meaning they eat both meat and vegetation). Feeding primarily on aquatic plants, fish, insects, and sometimes carrion. However, there is one slight difference in these turtles then other species. The major difference being that the adult females eat more plants then meats; while the males tend to eat far more meat. This makes it extremely important for you to know the sex of your turtle; which can be found by taking your turtle to a turtle specialist or reptile vet.
They enjoy temperatures that vary from the low to mid eighties in air temperature, a basking temperature of eighty to ninety, and a water temperature within the mid seventies. When setting up their habitat you will need to provide them with freshwater and land to thrive. |
