The western painted turtle
The western painted turtle is a stunning species of turtle that has become a popular pet. The painted turtles are named for their lower shell coloration; which looks to be colored with bright reds, yellows, and olive tones, along with stunning yet colorful designs. On the reverse side, their carapace is a deep black or olive coloration.
These turtles can range greatly in length; from four inches to ten inches total; the females of course, being the larger of the two sexes in this turtle species. While it may be difficult to find the gender of these turtles, taking your pet to the nearest turtle and reptile specialist will prove fruitful in the sex of your turtle.
Western Painted Turtles are freshwater turtles who prey wholly on live animals. They eat things such as insects and carrion; making it important to supplement their diet with a specialized painted-turtle pellet food; to ensure that they get all of their vital nutrients and vitamins. |
