Rio Grande River Cooter

The Rio Grande River Cooter (also known as a part of the Testudines or Chelonia family) is a beautiful turtle that ranges greatly in size and coloration. They tend to have a slightly different shell then that of other turtles; as this shell has developed from their very ribs. This turtle is semi-aquatic, however is far more graceful in the water then on land.
Despite the fact that they spend much of their time in the water, they still require air and some land for basking. Unlike many other turtles who are often sighted as pets; these animals are more difficult to care for in a captive environment; making them a better pet for more experienced turtle owners.
Rio Grande River Cooters ear primarily plant life, including things such as aquatic and non-aquatic plant life. However, some species are carnivorous and will eat things such as tadpoles, snails, insects, and crayfish. Making it important to provide a diverse diet for your new Rio Grande River Cooter.
