Ornate Wood Turtle

The Ornate Wood Turtle is a gorgeous specimen that comes in a variety of colors. While those of this species found in the Southern Regions of Nicaragua are rather bland; those from the Northern areas are stunningly bright with orange and yellow throughout. Some may even have bits of pink and red spotted over their Plastron (or lower shell).
These turtles range from eight to fourteen inches however can get larger in some instances. Despite their large size, they are fairly easy to care for; especially if you have an expert locally that you can speak with. Much like any other turtle, having a vet that specializes in turtles is also of the utmost importance.
Much like any other turtle, the ornate wood turtle will need the right habitat. It’s needs can be met easily by going to a reptile or fish specialty store.  
These gorgeous turtles have a wide range of food that they enjoy. They are what are considered omnivorous. They enjoy fruits and vegetables, along with worms and crickets. However, with these items you should also round out their diet with specially formulated turtle pellets.
